The 3-Minute Coach

March 15, 2002, Issue #34
Be a Model; Reveal Your Essence

Welcome to The 3-Minute Coach

In Boston, we are dealing with an early Spring. It's time to turn out the closets and shake the dust off our projects, hopes and dreams. I've come up with a new pricing format that I hope will help you "spring into action". Call today to "try out" coaching. If you like it, I think you'll also like the price!

Wonderful news! We've hit the 8000 mark with the newsletter. Thanks for passing it on!

In joy, peace and gratitude,

Louise

Announcing New Pricing Format:
The 10%-Invest-In-Yourself Program

Are your worth 10% of your take-home income?
I think you are!

Effective immediately, my 'regular' price for one month of coaching is 10% of your monthly net income. Most people find that this percentage of their income is a worthwhile -- and do-able -- investment in themselves. My hope is that this will open up the benefits of coaching to everyone who is seriously committed to change.

We very often 'throw' 10% of our income away on small or thoughtless purchases. Why not put it to work FOR you instead? If you like that idea, and you are someone who:

Then 10% of your income could improve your life 100%!

For the cost of take-out, fast food, cigarettes, soda, magazines, snacks and other such items, you could be enjoying the benefits of having someone in your corner, supporting and encouraging YOU!. This time next month you could be seeing visible change in multiple areas of your life.

Each month you will receive:

I partner with individuals who are READY (to live their best life), WILLING (to explore all options) and ABLE (to accept total support). With over 20 years in university, corporate and small business environments, I have a broad range of experience to draw on while working with my clients. Primarily, I use a two-pronged approach and the most successful clients work both areas simultaneously. We identify the blocks to success and work to eliminate those blocks using a variety of techniques and formats. At the same time, the client takes concrete actions towards achieving their goals. To see how my clients feel about this approach, and how they feel about my coaching, visit my Testimonials page.

The first step is easy - and free!! Just call or email today to set up a complementary coaching session. As they say, one picture (or in this case, one call) is worth a thousand words. Let's see how coaching can add value to YOUR life!

Yahoo Voice Chat is Available and works extremely well for clients outside the States.

P.S. Did you know that coaching undertaken to enhance your business is tax deductible? In the U.S., all expenses of continuing education undertaken to maintain and improve business and professional skills are tax deductible. (Treas.Reg.1-162-5, Coughlin vs. Commissioner, 203F 2d 307).

Keep It Simple

What A Difference A Focus Makes!

For the past six months or so, I have been dealing with a condition called adhesive capsulitis or 'frozen shoulder'. Basically, it is extremely painful to move your arm more than an inch or two, and almost impossible to lie on it. As you can guess, for the last 6 months, much of my day (and night!) was spent either feeling pain or avoiding pain. Recently, the source of the pain was identified and I underwent a surgical procedure to reverse the condition. Along with aggressive physical therapy, this event has been truly miraculous as I can now move my arm freely in (almost!) all directions.

For the first two weeks after the procedure, my focus was still on the arm and the 'lack' of pain as it got stronger daily. Since then, I've become aware that what was absent for the last six months was all other kinds of body pain. In the last few weeks, I've dealt with lower back pain (which I've suffered with for years) and the first cold of this winter (which knocked me out for over a week). If that wasn't enough, I've been awakened with leg cramps 4 times, something that used to happen frequently, but which I'd not experienced in the last 6 months. Since none of these are 'new' conditions, I find myself wondering why there were no occurrences while I was dealing with the pain from the frozen shoulder.

This experience has made me very aware of the value of 'focus' and has me wondering how I can put this information to use. It makes me think that if I can focus on a goal or desired outcome to the same degree that I focused on my frozen arm, then perhaps all the obstacles that usually get in the way of my achieving that goal will mysteriously disappear, or at the very least, be unable to get and hold my attention. It's something I'm going to try to work with over the next month. I'll let you know what happens!

(P.S. I know this makes me sound like a walking disaster area, but you get the point!)

Be a Model: Reveal Your Essence

As part of a workshop assignment, I was recently asked to identify 3 qualities that I would choose to model for others. Within a very few moments, I had my answer: compassion, respect, and wholeness. This reverberated with me so strongly that I soon realized that if I were able to live these three qualities to their fullest expression, I would be "in" integrity with the essence of my being. These were the very heart of my core values and talked louder of who I am than anything I had come across before. Stronger than I can remember, they seem to answer the question of Who Am I? and Why am I here?

I soon experimented with some of my clients. Their answers included: (1) sharing, self-expression, intelligence; (2) dedication, loyalty, intelligence and (3) creativity, love, enthusiasm. All different. All extremely expressive of the individuals who chose them. In each case, the answers took just a few moments to come up with. In each case, the individual involved felt that this was the essence of who they were. They also felt energized and powerful.

This is one of those exciting discoveries that I want to share with everyone. No matter what you're struggling with, getting in touch with those three qualities seems to have the effect of lifting you above the situation. It lifts you up to a place where alternatives - choices - are visible. And once we're in choice, we stop being victims and claim the power to create the reality we want.

So, start with the question. What three qualities do you want to model for others? Once you've identified your three, write them down and post them prominently. Refer to them often. Go through your day seeking to express them each to their fullest. Pay attention to those activities that are most in harmony with those qualities. Notice when in the past you've most been in alignment with them. Do you get to express them in your work? In your family? Who can you express them around? And who not? Start noticing when all three get expressed together. For example, thinking about my three (compassion, respect, wholeness), I understood why I am so passionate about coaching. It is such a natural opportunity for me to get to express these core attributes - and myself.

I hope you'll try this simple exercise. Of course, this is one of those "simple, but not easy" things. Identifying the three qualities is simple, but living them fully each day may be one of the most challenging endeavors you ever undertake.

The Welcome Mat Guest Column:

Live Your Life To Your Fullest Potential!
by Marie Sultana Robinson

People often ask me what my ideal client is! As a coach, part of my work to serve you best, was to create an ideal client list of values that I hold dear. One of the most important attributes is : "Someone who Wants to live their life to their fullest potential." But what does that mean? Potential comes from the Latin word for Power, the ability for anything to achieve the intensity or velocity required to move ahead. Many of the people I interview desire and dream of something, which is more glimmer than goal. They often have the credentials to make it happen, but lack something to bring that potential to more. The question is: How bad do they want it? How many people do you know who have degrees from colleges, or certificates from a variety of places that they never use? When they started the program they were fired up. This was their purpose. They had great potential. But with time, the romance is over, and the reality of obstacles, and daily tasks whittled a way at their resolve. They stop all together or tuck the "dream" away into a hobby that is pulled out once a year.

They say "I could be great at this, but...." Life and potential are created by cans, not can 'knots'. What CAN you do? What do you do that you CAN? How CAN you be your fullest potential? Often the answer is individual, but the answer can be obtained in several questions. When I ask these questions, in a coaching session, I am silent for a moment while my clients ponder. Tolerating silence may be difficult, but sometimes people need quiet to let their minds and their hearts open up and produce something to contribute. So since this is by email. Read the question and pause. Take a deep breath. And MUSE.

1- If Money were no object what would you do for work? This question often gives you the answer to that hole in your life and your heart where potential is held. When I asked myself this question, I answered simply. I love to assist people to grown and attain their dreams. I love the role of MUSE. That's why I'm a committed coach. One of my clients, Liisa has taken over a family business at the Grand Prix Driving School on Cape Cod, because she says it's like a family member, a beloved cousin. What is your dream? That quiet desire that you see on the TV and say, 'if only I could'.

2- -How could you take your new or existing business to a new level? A new level is just that-- a new level. It's cranking the burners of transformation, not just doing MORE. Most people hear new level and think, that's great, but I don't want to work 10-20 hours more a week. I've been a coach for 4 years, with a small number of clients. I'm expanding my business to workshops, and articles on a local and a national level. As well as taking on new clients who want to succeed. I am building a team around me to support me.

3- What comfort zones are you clinging to that could be holding you back from the achievement of your goals and dreams? Comfort zones, they are sometimes a worse block than an obvious obstacle. It's like the guy that has met the woman of his dreams two cities away, but dates the old girlfriend because she's closer. Neither relationship can reach it's full potential. What do you do because it's comfortable? How would trading in some comfort allow you to do your dream? Theresa, of Cape Cod Mermaids, made the decision to put off buying anything that wasn't essential, until her business was launched. Some creature comforts were sacrificed temporarily, but 3 years later she is living her dream.

4- What are the action steps that could take you closer to your dream and could you do it today? For Ellen, it was subscribing to a writing journal that had guidelines for publishing houses. The small investment paid off in contacts that created jobs for her writing. For Kim and MaryAnne Heathman of Lionhearted Publishing and Entertainment, it was deciding to take the plunge into the world of film producing. They have diligently learned everything they can, and are in the final stages of raising the investment capital to bring their incredible stories to film. Each action step brought them closer to being the film moguls that we will all look back and say, 'knew them when'. All this started for them, one day when MaryAnne discovered that approximately 50% of all paperback books go unsold and are destroyed, often being dumped into our oceans as wastepaper. She wanted to create a place to empower authors and save our environment, years later, now she's going to the next level yet again, one action step at a time!

Principles of Attraction

Attraction is the ability to consistently draw the best things in life towards you: opportunities, strong finances, rewarding relationships, whatever you define as 'the best things'. Additionally, it means to draw them forth effortlessly, without striving, scuffling or struggling.

Thomas J. Leonard has developed 28 Principles of Attraction in his book "The Portable Coach". (Visit Amazon.Com) .

Each newsletter I will take one principle and highlight its key points. For a pdf version of all 28 principles, email attraction04@touchpointcoaching.com .

Principle #4: BUILD A SUPERRESERVE IN EVERY AREA
Having enough is not nearly enough for you to be irresistibly attractive.

CLARIFICATION

This is not about hoarding, but about feeling secure. It's about having enough (time, money, whatever) to respond to opportunities that present themselves. And it's not just about material things, but about time, space, love and other intangibles as well.

KEY POINTS

  1. Reserve is a feeling; Reserves are a stockpile. You're going for the feeling, not the stockpile.

  2. When you have enough (of what you need) to notice and schedule opportunities, that's a reserve. When you have enough to respond in the moment that you notice the opportunity, that's a superreserve.

  3. Start anywhere. You'll be surprised at the impact that a 3 to 6 month supply of toilet paper, paper towels, soap, or any other household item will have.

  4. Become an investor rather than a spender. The essence of this change is to redirect existing resources.

  5. Giving yourself more space also creates a reserve. It gives a feeling of roominess and can be obtained in many ways: clean out closets, get rid of shoulds, abandon roles you never chose or just take more vacations!

Special Offer: For a free 100-point SuperReserve assessment, send a blank email to: reserves04@touchpointcoaching.com
