3 Ways to Relax (#5)

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

1. Accept change. Nothing stays the same forever. True relaxation comes not from controlling life’s flow, but from allowing yourself to be carried along by the flow without fear of the future or nostalgia of the past.

2. Let go of lost opportunities. There will always be in your life that you didn’t take, because you didn’t see them, because you were already committed, or because you valued something else more highly. Rather than cursing yourself for missing those opportunities, remember that you made the best choices that you could at the time. Look ahead and follow your chosen path, seeking the doorways that are open to you and forgetting about those you have closed.

3. Treat time as a convenience, not an obstacle. Time is merely nature’s way of preventing everything from happening at once. Think of it as a robotic helper, programmed to remain in the background until it’s required — for example, when you are meeting a friend at a restaurant.

Personal Foundation: Stop Tolerating

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

Humans tolerate a lot. Often, we’re taught not to complain, that life is difficult, not to rock the boat, to go along with others, to be grateful for what we have, to be understanding. Not bad advice, but we can still stop tolerating what is bugging us!

When a person has stopped tolerating

  • They are happier, more fun to be around.
  • They have extra energy to express their values vs their egos.
  • They have the Edge: they “step-over” nothing.

What happens when one tolerates

  • They and their work becomes mediocre; people are tired.
  • Natural creativity is squashed.

THE 10 STEPS TO A TOLERATION-FREE LIFE

❑ Get” that putting up with things is good for no-one.
❑ Make a list of 10 things you are tolerating at home.
❑ Make the requests/take the actions to eliminate these items.
❑ Make a list of 10 things you are tolerating at work.
❑ Take the actions to eliminate these items.
❑ “Get” that you’re getting juiced by tolerating things!
❑ Be focused to being toleration-free.
❑ Stop complaining: instead, make a strong plea.
❑ Invest $1000 to handle the tasks/chores which pain you.
❑ Do steps 1-9 above, again, after you’ve done them once! Number of checked boxes (10 max)

_____ Number of items marked True (10 max)

Difference between valuing your time and being afraid of losing it.

Friday, July 31st, 2009

There is quite a difference between valuing your time and being afraid of losing it.

To value time means to appreciate the time you’re given, to feel grateful for every second of every day.

When you are afraid of losing time, you are always looking for more. There is a sense of scarcity which creates additional overwhelm and throws you off-base. The more off-base you become, the less you are able to effectively use the time you have.

For most people, we actually have all the time we NEED. The problem arises when we are focused on the time we WANT. If you can stay tuned into what you need, and be grateful for the time you get, I think you’ll be surprised at how much more time you find in your life. Life will become peaceful for you, and that fosters a sense of abundance.

In every way, it’s a win-win for you!

Wordsmith: Valuing vs being afraid of losing Time

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

Here’s a quick exercise to broaden your awareness of time, our most precious commodity.

Say each of the following statements and tune into how each makes you feel. Take a deep breath before each one and say it aloud, with full consciousness.

  1. I value my time.
  2. I’m afraid of losing time.

If you’re like me, the fist statement made me feel secure and in control, while the second statement produced an uncomfortable feeling in my stomach and made my shoulders tighten. I was bracing for the storm of overwhelm.

I’m sure you can see how feeling secure and in control can make all your efforts easier. If you prefer that feeling, the simplest way to get it is to stay present with what you’re doing. Value your time by living in the now!

Remember, today’s the day to make different choices to get different results! I hope you’ll share your results with us here.
