Orange Diamonds

Recently, I was driving on a 4-lane highway that I drive anywhere from 1 to 3 times a week, as it is the main road between the small town I live in and the “big city” where everything I want to do is located (stores, doctors, etc.). As I was driving down this road at 55mph (ok… maybe 60, maybe even 65!) I noticed something I’d never seen before. There were road signs that had been there for about 2 years that had new shiny big orange diamonds on them (about 1 foot square). In itself, that isn’t odd; but these orange diamonds had no words on them.
This really struck me and I wondered about it for a bit. Finally, it hit me. All the signs with the extra diamond were signs related to the fact that the maximum-speed road goes down to one lane, then reopens to allow for an easy left turn at the traffic light coming up. The orange diamonds had been added to help us “see” the signs. I know I noticed them again after really not seeing them for a long time.
I loved the idea of the Orange Diamonds, a sign to help bring something important back into conscious focus again. It made me start wondering where I need Orange Diamonds in my life. As I speed through my life, what important things have sunk so deep into my unconscious that I need help in remembering them?
Answers that came up quickly mostly had to do with physical things (not really a surprise in my life!!). For some reason, while I see my bag of medicine and insulin every morning, I need the orange diamond after 5pm. I need an orange diamond to remember that I must go out and walk. Sometimes I forget to do basic things that many people do on auto-pilot. Sometimes I forget to work on a clarifying statement (think similar to an affirmation, but a ‘truth’ statement, not a ‘wish’ statement) which has given me tremendous insight and which I need to work with regularly to own it completely. I’m sure there are more, but I already see the need for orange diamonds in my life.
My coaching question for you is: Where do you need orange diamonds in YOUR life?
My wondering question for you is: What will they use next, once the orange diamonds become as oblivious to us as the original word sign?
